The Consortium on Aging was established to lead The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) in meeting the challenge of health care delivery to the growing elderly population. UTHealth is uniquely positioned to tackle this challenge because of the already existing strengths of its many health-related schools and centers, including the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health, Health Informatics and Biomedical Sciences. The Consortium serves as a university-wide home for aging-related interdisciplinary care, education and research. Its role is to foster collaboration among the schools and centers of UTHealth, to enhance the delivery of coordinated, patient-centered care for elders, to investigate new methods for training health care students and practicing providers in geriatrics and to translate research into practice.
